What is the point of a youth group? What should a youth group be like? Should it just be a group of people who you can fit in with and hang out with? Or should it be a group of teenagers who love God? Well, the real answer is both. We should be a group of teenagers who always are longing to know God more and more, BUT we should also be a group where people can come and hang out and fit in, without being judged!
Often times we judge others without even realizing it. Do you know why? It is because we’ve made it a habit! We will all look at someone and start thinking things like “what is she wearing,” or “can you believe what he just said, WOW!” Now does that sound like a group of teenagers longing for God? No, it doesn’t!
Now I hope as your reading this you’re not thinking of a friend who just said that about someone else! I want you to think about you, when YOU said something just like that!! I’m not writing this because I want you to go out and tell all your friends they need to change, but because I want us all to step up and change ourselves! It just takes ONE person to start a change! That’s what I’m trying to do, by writing this.
Our youth group needs a push! I believe we have all found our little safe zones and don’t want to leave them! Well guess what, I’m pushing you out of your zone! God doesn’t want us to grow for a little bit then die out and just be shadows. We are to be lights! Not burned out dead lights, but lights that are ALIVE AND SHINING BRIGHTLY!!
So you might be asking yourself, what is the point of this letter? Well it’s simple...I want to encourage everyone to step up and out of their safe zones. Step up and say hi to the visitor, don’t sit back and think that someone else will talk to them. Show God’s LOVE! Be brave and have a conversation with someone in the group who has been there forever but you’ve never gotten to know. Show THEM God’s love too! Show it to the world AND to the body of Christ!
